An excellent opportunity awaits a results-focused and business-minded individual to join PetroChina International (Netherlands) Company B.V. as a Business Development “BD” Manager in our Rotterdam (Netherlands) office.

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the BD Manager will support and expand the Business Development department covering the European and African territory. The products include Crude Oil, LNG, Refined Products, (bio) Marine Fuel and Petrochemicals. It is imperative to have a deep understanding and knowledge of the International Oil and Gas industry. 

Current State of Play

Corresponding to PetroChina’s growth strategy, you will join the team and contribute to the growth of market share and develop a sustainable business portfolio for the various products mentioned. You will be asked to use your existing network and knowledge of the markets to develop new value propositions, take the lead in new market analysis by working closely with the trading desks in London, Singapore and China. Setting up business plans and risk strategy analysis are part of the tasks.

Therefore, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a sustained track record of success generating business, solid commercial and financial acumen. In addition, the individual will be entrepreneurial, target driven and able to develop effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions.

Business Development Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate new business opportunities in Europe and Africa within the product scope.
  • Developing strategies for new business using annual marketing and profit targets, working according to developed sales strategy and sales processes.
  • Produce and present business plans for various sectors including viability / profit assessments.
  • Maintaining close working relationship with PetroChina’s global teams including China, US and Middle East and UK, in terms of products, services and resources to optimise new business opportunities.
  • Monitoring market and competitor activities.
  • Weekly and reporting on the status and progress of development of the projects, sales activity and targets.
  • Networking with industry professionals and stakeholders.
  • Effective communication with management, stakeholders and customers.
  • Regular coordinating with the relevant trading departments.
  • Creating, reviewing and distributing relevant product documentation.
  • Arranging and attending meetings and conferences with potential clients and preparing and conducting presentations as required.
  • Issuing monthly reports on market conditions and behaviours of the scope of products.

What we’re looking for / Skills that will help you in the role

  • Significant commercial experience in business development, strategy, origination, international sales trading or a similar role relating to the petrochemical / oil & energy sector is essential. 
  • Solid product knowledge and experience with Crude Oil, LNG, Refined Products, (bio) Marine Fuel and Petrochemicals products is essential. 
  • Excellent knowledge of typical trading counterparties and a well established network within the oil & energy industry is essential. 
  • Proven commercial and financial track record in business, delivering projects of complex scope. 
  • A firm understanding of oil & petrochemical fundamentals, products, grades, qualities, geopolitical and environmental influence on commodity markets. 
  • Proven ability to generate profit through new and existing business relationships 
  • Ability to build strategic working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and present thoughts and innovative ideas, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to plan, implement and deliver business goals. 
  • Multi-Tasking Abilities – a can do and proactive attitude in managing multiple, time sensitive tasks concurrently is essential. 
  • Analytical/Problem Solving Skills – Thinks and manages problems and tasks through to completion. Evaluates and understands the financial impact of decisions/activities. 
  • Knowledge and experience in IT including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. 

Please note: This is a full-time, 1 year fixed-term contract position initially, with a view of becoming permanent. The job is based in our Rotterdam, Netherlands office. The role holder will be expected to work from the office 5 days per week.
